Ah -- The Great Wall. This section is about a 2 hour bus ride from Beijing
It's called Simatai Great Wall. Originally built during the Northern Qi dynasty
(550-577). However the wall that is visible today dates from the Ming Dynasty and
was built from the middle of the 14th century to the middle of the 17th century.
Unlike other sections closer to Beijing, that have undergone extensive restoration,
the wall at Simatai has received very little attention. Here, the wall really looks
as one would expect it to look some 500 years after it was built.
